I chose to write my context statement on public secondary education. Throughout my schooling, grades 11 and 12 were crucial for my current academic success. I attended Coventry High School, which is the only high school in the district. It was a large school with countless clubs/ activities coupled with diverse students. By diverse I mean mainly white students wearing uggs, yoga pants and typing on their iphones to gothic/ scene kids and everything in-between with nerds, jocks and all of the normal high school stuff. These of course are all unspoken divisions. I however, embraced the culture of being myself. I felt so comfortable within this school and with my academics come junior year, I did not care what people thought. I simply thought those who matter don’t care, I am just searching for happiness within myself.
Once I found happiness I was able to realize my true academic potential. My grades began to soar and I really enjoyed going to school. The teachers made the material exciting and the students engaged. Though the roofs’ were leaky and in the winter everyone in the building would have to wear winter coats due to the faulty heating system, it was imperfectly perfect.
If I were to compare my high school education to those in SI. I would say we could connect on the cosmetic issues but in comparison my high school resembles paradise compared to theirs. I also think the people within the community can relate to the people that I went to school with because everyone was down to earth, all dealing with the same situation trying to make it work. There are definitely better high schools within the state and boy I would have loved heat in the winter and I’m sure the children in SI would love to not play in chemicals, one thing all of these inconveniences provide is comfort. It’s like a broken in shoe, you know when it’s the perfect fit.
